A new ascendancy reveal can make a character concept look irresistible, but one striking bonus rarely tells the whole story. Before spending POE 2 Orbs on equipment for a class, consider how its full set of options might support your skills, defenses, and progression.
The most useful question is not whether a node looks powerful in isolation. It is whether the benefits remain valuable while you level, replace equipment, and face encounters that demand more than damage.
Start With the Skill, Not the Highlight
Choose a core skill or a small group of skills to evaluate first. Identify how they deal damage, how often they can hit, and what resources they consume. Then check whether the ascendancy improves those qualities directly or requires a specific setup before its bonuses become useful.
A bonus that rewards frequent hits may suit a fast attack, while a slower skill may gain more from effects that improve each individual strike. Read the wording carefully: a benefit tied to attacks does not necessarily help spells, and an effect with a condition may not be active throughout every encounter.
Compare Two Character Directions
Imagine an official reveal presents one option that rewards repeated hits and another that improves damage after spending a resource. These are illustrative possibilities, not claims about particular nodes. The first could suit a rapid attack character using a weapon with reliable speed and passive points that improve accuracy and survivability.
The second could suit a spell-focused character investing in a larger resource pool, recovery, and equipment that supports consistent casting. Its potential damage might look appealing, but the character also needs enough recovery to keep using its main skill during long fights.
Compare both directions at several stages rather than only at their strongest. Ask what each can accomplish with ordinary equipment, which passive investments are essential, and whether either depends on a rare item to feel comfortable.
Account for Defense and Movement
Damage matters less when a character cannot stay alive long enough to use it. Review defensive bonuses alongside life, resistances, avoidance, and recovery. A promising node should complement the protection already available to the character rather than leave a major weakness for equipment alone to solve.
Movement deserves attention too. A character that must stand still to maintain damage may need stronger defenses or more careful positioning. One that attacks while moving may sacrifice peak damage but handle dangerous encounters more consistently.
Keep Your Options Open
After the reveal, record the requirements behind each appealing option and revisit them as more information becomes available. Separate confirmed effects from assumptions, especially when interactions with support skills or equipment are unclear.
A good ascendancy supports the entire character, not just one impressive moment. If you later decide to buy POE 2 Exalted Orbs, make that decision with a clear equipment plan and an understanding of the character you want to play.
